Curatorial Assistant , Baltic Centre For Contemporary Art

BALTIC is looking for a Curatorial Assistant to assist and support Baltic’s Programme Team in the delivery of exhibition and public programmes.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to provide organisational and curatorial support on our programme of exhibitions, events, Artists Development Programme and Artists Residencies.

You will have a strong interest in curatorial practice and working with artists and a post-graduate degree in visual arts, art history or related subject combined with relevant experience, or demonstrable experience of working in an art gallery or curatorial work.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people both internally and externally and to build collaborative relationships with colleagues.

A highly organised and calm approach to work with the ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload and deliver agreed outputs to deadlines is essential. Clear thinking and solutions-focused – able to manage competing demands and conflicting objectives with the ability to think creatively to come up with solutions to problems.

You will have an understanding of the principles of equity and inclusion, and experience of proactively applying and promoting these in practice at work.

Key Information:

  • Reports to: Curatorial Assistant

  • Salary: £20,307

  • Working hours: Full time role (37h per week). Monday to Friday with occasional evening and weekend work compensated with time off in-lieu – we offer a flexi time scheme

  • Place of Work: Your usual place of work will be BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, South Shore Road, Gateshead NE8 3BA

  • Annual leave: You will be entitled to 25 days paid annual leave plus standard bank holidays
