Open Call - Samdani Art Award 2023

Deadline: 15 April 2022

Samdani Art Foundation, in partnership with Delfina Foundation, launches a call for Bangladeshi artists to apply for its bi-annual art award, the Samdani Art Award.

20 semi-finalists will be identified by the Delfina Foundation, and the Samdani Art Award 2023 guest curator, Anne Barlow, Director, Tate St. Ives, will then further narrow this to 10 finalists following one-to-one sessions with each of the semi-finalists.

Each of the short-listed participants will be given a production budget to create new work which will be exhibited at the sixth edition of the Dhaka Art Summit at the Shilpakala Academy from 3 to 11 February 2023. Each of the finalists will be prominently featured in the Dhaka Art Summit catalogue, and will have their exhibited work(s) and portfolio evaluated by international jury board members, which will be announced in June/July 2022.

The winner of the Samdani Art Award will receive an all-expenses-paid, six-week residency during summer 2023 at the Delfina Foundation in London. The Delfina Foundation will develop a loosely structured series of events and activities enabling the selected artist to:

  • Research and develop areas of interest

  • Further their skills through training and mentoring

  • Access information and resources through independent study, field trips, and workshops

  • Participate in both internal and external/public events

THE SELECTED ARTIST WILL RECEIVE:

  • A six-week residency in London, including one return, economy-class flight, and a living allowance for food/per diems and materials;

  • A single bedroom at Delfina Foundation with shared facilities, such as the laundry room, kitchen, and dining room;

  • Opportunities to engage in the art scene in the UK through structured and independent time and activities; and

  • Access to a programme of planned group activities and visits to cultural organisations in the UK.
