Portfolio Reviews - Cameroonian photographers

Yaounde Photo Network at UNSEEN Amsterdam, 2018

As part of a new international collaboration developed by Bikoka Art Project, in partnership with Yaounde Photo Network, curator Christine Eyene invites Cameroonian photographers working in the field of documentary, artistic, or experimental photography to present their portfolios.

Interested photographers can send 1 to 2 series of 15 to 20 images in advance (by email, via Dropbox, or Google Drive) which will serve as a basis for discussion, a statement on your work, as well as a short biography. It is also recommended to prepare any specific questions you may have about your work – especially about presentation formats, or other works and writings that may inform your practice.

These portfolio reviews are aimed at photographers seriously engaged in a documentary or creative practice. Emerging photographers are also welcome.

Christine Eyene is an art historian and curator working between England, Morocco and Cameroon. She has developed numerous photographic projects in the context of exhibitions and biennials including: Summer of Photography, BOZAR, Brussels (2018 and 2014); FORMAT International Photography Festival, New Art Exchange, Nottingham (2015); Photoquai – Biennial of World Images, Musée du Quai Branly, Paris and GWANZA Month of Photography, National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Harare (2011).

With Yaounde Photo Network, she has exhibited Cameroonian photography at BiC Project Space, Casablanca (2019); Unseen Amsterdam and Arakawa Africa, OGU MAG, Tokyo (2018); and in Yaoundé (2016-2017).

The portfolio reviews will take place in Yaounde on Tuesday 15 February and Wednesday 16 February from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in individual sessions of 30 to 40 minutes. Photographers are asked to come either with a printed portfolio or with their own laptop or tablet.

An online session will take place on Friday 25 February from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The location and internet links will be communicated to the selected photographers.
